Morning
The day is Monday, June 10th, and our plans today are to make some home visits and practice for our skit in the evening. As with other days, our morning starts with personal devotions, group reflection, and then breakfast.
It is hot and muggy in Honduras. Being that it is in a rainforest and closer to the equator, we apply a lot of sunblock and bug spray, and head out to make home visits. There are 5 goals of home visits that I can enumerate. The first is to introduce ourselves. Each home visit we introduce who we are and where we are from along with what we are doing. The second goal is to get to know the individual(s) at the home we are visiting. We want to know their story. How many people live there, who works, how their health is, and most importantly, how we can pray for them. The third goal of our visit is to deliver them food and Bibles to help their burden and allow them to learn about God. Fourth, and most importantly, we ask if they believe in Jesus and attend church, and then pray for them. The fifth goal is as a group, we worship in song together.
Our first home visit, we meet a sweet young lady who is home by herself at the moment. We provide her the food, Bibles, and we pray for her and her family. She wants to receive Jesus into her heart so we lead her in the sinner’s prayer.
It is a wonderful experience to be able to meet both the immediate physical needs of the individuals in the community as well as help with their spiritual needs.
At another home visit this day, we meet someone who we find out works at the hotel we are staying at. What is more impressive, is that he is sixteen and providing for his family as his father and mother cannot work. He had to drop out of school to care for his family.
We prayed for physical and mental strength for him and his family. His story really touched my family since we have a daughter who at the time of this trip is 19 and another who is 16 and we could not imagine them having to provide for our family at their young age.
We visit a couple more families including a mother (below) that had sixteen family members living in her home, including two children that were abandoned so she decided to take them in.
Afternoon & Evening
After lunch, we practiced and rehearsed the skit for our upcoming Sidewalk Sunday School that we will start tomorrow. To see a glimpse of what this was about, check our blog post from April (CLICK HERE) or wait to see tomorrow!
We had dinner at the hotel that night, our nightly debrief, and then off to bed. Tomorrow we have our first Sidewalk Sunday School in the afternoon as well as our “Serve Project” in the morning.
